About the School

A Tradition of Study

The study of Ayurveda has traditionally been entered into with sincerity, discipline, and a genuine desire to understand the deeper principles of life and health. At Satmya School of Ayurveda, we welcome students who are drawn to Ayurveda not simply as knowledge, but as a profound and practical system for understanding human wellbeing.

Since 2007, Satmya has contributed to Ayurvedic education and clinical practice in Ireland. Our professional training programmes, established in 2014, were created to offer something increasingly rare: a structured and serious education rooted in classical Ayurvedic knowledge while preparing practitioners for responsible modern professional practice.

More than 70 graduates have trained with Satmya through our training pathways.

Rooted in the Classical Texts

Our teaching is informed by the great classical Ayurvedic texts including the Charaka Samhita, Ashtanga Hridayam, and Sushruta Samhita. These works continue to define the foundations of Ayurvedic philosophy, diagnosis, and treatment.

Hitāhitam sukham duḥkham āyus tasya hitāhitam
Mānaṃ ca tac ca yatroktam āyurvedaḥ sa ucyate

“Ayurveda is the science of life, describing what is beneficial and harmful, what brings happiness and suffering, and the measure of life itself.”
— Charaka Samhita, Sutrasthana 1.41

This understanding continues to guide our approach to both teaching and clinical training.

The Satmya Training Experience

Training at Satmya is designed as an immersive educational experience rather than a conventional classroom course. Our in-person immersion weekends form the centre of the learning process, allowing students to engage deeply with Ayurveda through study, practice, observation, and discussion.

Immersion weekends include:

  • Classical Ayurvedic lectures
  • Practical therapeutic training
  • Clinical case discussion
  • Diagnostic reasoning development
  • Ayurvedic herbal education
  • Shared learning within a focused cohort
  • Experiential seasonal Ayurvedic cleansing practices
  • Seasonal Ayurvedic cooking and lifestyle education

Each training day includes a freshly prepared seasonal Ayurvedic meal. Food is considered part of the education — an opportunity to understand Ayurvedic principles through direct experience of digestion, balance, rhythm, and seasonality.

This immersive model reflects Ayurveda’s traditional method of learning: study, observation, discussion, and clinical application.

Professional Training Pathways

We offer three levels of training depending on student goals, ranging from foundational study to professional practitioner development.

Our programmes include:

  • Structured academic education
  • Supervised clinical training
  • Professional practitioner development
  • Small cohort mentorship
  • Insurance eligibility pathways for qualifying graduates

Programmes have been independently assessed for insurance purposes. Graduates who complete the required academic and supervised clinical hours may apply for professional indemnity insurance.

Who Our Training Is For

Satmya programmes are designed for individuals who approach Ayurveda with seriousness and respect.

Our students typically include:

  • Serious students of Ayurveda
  • Wellness practitioners
  • Yoga teachers
  • Therapists and complementary health practitioners
  • Healthcare professionals interested in integrative health
  • Career changers seeking meaningful professional direction
  • Individuals with a deep personal interest in Ayurveda

While backgrounds vary, our students share a common intention: a wish to study Ayurveda in a structured, authentic, and professionally responsible way.

A Selective Learning Environment

To protect the quality of training and preserve the depth of mentorship, cohort sizes are intentionally kept small. This allows students to receive meaningful guidance, develop clinical confidence gradually, and learn within a supportive professional environment.

We particularly value students who bring curiosity, maturity, and commitment to the learning process.

Our Educational Aim

Our aim is not simply to teach Ayurveda, but to help form capable practitioners who can carry the tradition forward responsibly.

We seek to graduate practitioners who are:

  • Clinically competent
  • Grounded in classical Ayurvedic knowledge
  • Ethically responsible
  • Professionally prepared
  • Capable of practising in a modern context
  • Committed to maintaining the integrity of Ayurveda

A Living Tradition

Ayurveda has always been transmitted through careful study, clinical observation, and respectful mentorship. Satmya exists to support this process in a modern educational setting while remaining faithful to the depth and seriousness of the tradition.

We see Ayurvedic education not as the accumulation of information, but as a gradual development of understanding, perception, and professional responsibility.

At its heart, Satmya is a place of learning for those who wish to approach Ayurveda with sincerity — whether for professional practice, personal development, or a deeper understanding of health.

We believe that good practitioners are not produced quickly. They are formed through careful study, guided experience, thoughtful discussion, and time.

Satmya exists to provide that foundation.
