Doug Hyde

Ayurvedic Practitioner| Teacher | Co-FOunderMeet Doug – Ayurvedic Practitioner & Co-founder of Satmya

Doug is a dedicated Ayurvedic practitioner and the co-founder of Satmya. Through private consultations & professional training courses, Doug is passionate about making Ayurveda accessible, practical, and transformative for all. His approach empowers clients and students alike to take charge of their health and wellbeing in meaningful, lasting ways.

Although based at Satmya in East Clare, Doug regularly travels across Ireland, sharing the wisdom of Ayurveda with communities, businesses, and wellness groups nationwide.

A Lifelong Journey in Health & Wellbeing

Doug’s connection with health and natural therapies began early. A competitive swimmer from the age of five, he represented Ireland internationally and earned a full athletic scholarship to the University of Denver. It was during his time in Denver that he discovered Ayurvedaβ€”a moment of deep resonance that would shape his life’s path.

Following his retirement from competitive swimming, Doug moved to Australia to formally study Ayurveda. After completing his training, he returned to his roots in County Clare and established Satmya in 2007, creating a centre where ancient wisdom meets modern life.

More Than Ayurveda

Doug’s interests are wide-ranging and rooted in a deep respect for nature and tradition. He is passionate about Natural Building and sustainability, having recently completed a straw bale building that now houses the new Satmya Centre.

He is also a strong advocate for Irish culture, language, and folk history. Doug speaks Irish regularly with his children, nurturing a love for native traditions in the next generation. His reverence for the land is reflected in his family’s efforts to plant over 3,500 native Irish trees around Satmya, creating a lasting legacy of biodiversity and connection to the earth.
